Cloud Computing

Cloud computing or "on demand" computing is the latest IT craze and it is anticipated with grow in popularity over the coming years for both small-to-mid sized business and corporates.

Cloud computing is basically a form of computing where IT is delivered “as a service” over the internet.   IT services can be accessible from anywhere, once you have an internet connection.  Cloud computing removes the need and associated expense to procure and install IT hardware and infrastructure in the traditional sense.   Instead of running IT locally your organisation effectively connects to a shared data centre and you access what you pay for over the internet.

As its a shared facility, the economies of scale means lower operating costs, quicker time to market and seamless administration.   Your organisation also benefits from automatic upgrades and patches when they are available meaning you always have the latest version of the software and applications you are running.

However, because your data is no longer resident behind the company firewall or housed on platforms owned and controlled by your company, organisations need to be aware of the data management and security implications of jumping on the cloud.  This is where your competent IT service provider comes in!  They can advise on how cloud computing best suits your business without jeopardising data integrity and security.
