IT Force Selection
NESDO has selected IT Force to design, deploy and manage a innovative server-room cooling and monitoring solution using leading-edge technology from APC Schneider Electric. The solution included the deployment of a standalone module which constantly regulates the server room environment and enables IT Force consultants to remotely monitor, diagnose and support the infrastructure from the NOC in Dublin.
Specific Need, Creative Solution
For organisational reasons, NESDO was faced with a requirement to relocate their server room up a number of floors in their shared premises building on Parnell Square in Dublin. NESDO had considered a number of traditional server-room cooling solutions such as roof-top units or running piping up from the existing shared air conditioning unit in the building’s basement. However the cost of the former solution and the lack of independence and manageability of the latter convinced Brendan Ward, Head of Administration at NESDO, to look for a more creative solution. IT Force recommended that NESDO evaluate the suite of innovative, cost-effective and green-friendly server-room cooling and monitoring solutions available from APC Schneider Electric.
Client Benefit
“The standalone and movable unit we picked on advice from IT Force made the most business sense to us. It is more economical as it only cools what you want it to cool”, explains Brendan Ward. “This makes it a more ecological and economical solution. As it is a standalone solution it is also much more fl exible and manageable than traditional cooling solutions. We can simply move it if we need to or add more units if our infrastructure grows”, explains Ward.
Innovative Cooling
The “In Row” solution deployed brings the latest innovative technologies from APC into play. As Joe Fagan, Senior Account Manager with IT Force explains, “placing the unit in the row of racks moves the source of cooling closer to the heat load. This provides predictable cooling. It also removes heat close to the source of generation and distributes cold air to the front of the racks in the cold aisle”, explains Fagan.
IT Force Services
In consultation with specialist advisers from APC, IT Force designed, deployed and now remotely support the server room infrastructure and cooling solution from the NOC at IT Force HQ in Dublin 2. IT Force also project managed the server-room move. IT Force has also provided NESDO with APC Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) as part of their formal Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan.
Remote Support & Diagostics
The IT Force Managed Services team can remote-in and actively monitor and manage the entire server-room environment extending the teams visibility into the operation and health of the unit. The unit is connected directly over the network with a dedicated IP address. IT Force consultants manage the unit via a web browser and also benefit from automatic notifi cation of issues and problems so that action can be taking before issues develop.
