Making the business case for smaller firms

IT Force, a services company that targets small to medium-sized companies, claims that 2010 had been the firm's best year yet for virtualisation. Along with server consolidation and disaster recovery projects that utilise virtual servers, the company has also worked on deploying a virtualised desktop infrastructure.

Director Joe Molloy said the secret of its success was making a successful business case. The desktop virtualisation customer is a case in point. For the 25-person company, it became viable because of a combination of factors. Existing servers were near the end of their lives, they were running out of capacity and the firm wanted to install a new finance application.
