Contract Network Support Administrator – Data and Communications Infrastructure
Our city centre client requires a Network Support Administrator – Data and Communications Infrastructure for a contract role. This position involves dealing with complex IP and networking issues (VLANS, routing, firewalls and high availability configurations) on the client’s Network. Candidates will have to deal with escalations from the Service Desk and Network Operations Centre (NOC), and liaise with external service providers if necessary. They must have the ability to troubleshoot, prioritise issues and work under pressure, while maintaining established procedures and standards are a key requirement for this position. The Successful Candidate will be expected to support the client’s back-end infrastructure systems, including the data network devices (switches, routers), VOIP system, firewalls, wide area network connectivity, access to Government Networks, file, Email Systems, database and application servers, enterprise level security systems (antivirus, email gateway, web gateway) and various bespoke applications. The successful candidate will join a team that supports 14 sites throughout the country with about 450 users.
The main responsibilities of this position are:
- Provide support for VOIP system, including layer 2 and layer 3 switching technologies
- Support Windows 2003 and 2008 Networks, Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange 2003, Exchange 2007, SQL 2000/2005
- Support firewalls, email filter gateways and web proxy servers
- Define and document network solutions and operating procedures
- Network monitoring and status reporting
- System documentation and logging all important incident information
- Service maintenance, administration and resiliency
- Troubleshoot and resolve critical incidents across the network
- Resolve user problems escalated from the Network Operating Centre (NOC)
The key characteristics/skills being sought in the candidates for this position are:
Required:
- Fluent spoken and written English.
- At least 3 years hands-on experience in a Network Support Administrator role, including the following areas:
- Excellent TCP/IP skills, specifically routing, subnetting, VLANs
- WAN and LAN configuration and support, specifically administration of routers and switches (both through command line and GUI)
- Excellent working knowledge of enterprise level security technologies (firewalls, web proxies, email gateways)
- Excellent working knowledge of critical Network Services (Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/S, FTP)
- Microsoft Server 2003 and 2008 and Windows XP administration
- Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 configuration and administration
- Remote access technologies, network access control, security and connectivity issues
- Excellent working knowledge of configuration of production virtual-machine environments
- Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot network-related issues in a time-critical and pressured environment
- Design, configuration and support of HA web-hosted solutions
- Configuration and management of SAN technologies in a production environment
- Configuration of resilient and diverse systems
- Configuration and management of enterprise level backup systems
- Excellent oral and written communication, and documentation skills
- Teamwork skills and a positive attitude are essential
- Flexibility, self-motivation and ability to work under pressure
Desired:
- Network+/CCNA/MCSA/MCSE/Security+ or equivalent certification
