Network Support Administrator

The successful Candidate will support the Client’s network infrastructure systems and servers, including: 

  • Active Directory,
  • Group Policy configuration and maintenance, 
  • Data network device configuration and maintenance (switches, routers), 
  • Management of file, database and application servers, 
  • Enterprise level security systems (antivirus, email gateway, web gateway) and
  • Various bespoke applications. 

 

Candidates will deal with Level 3 incident management escalations from the Service Desk and Network Operations Centre (NOC), and liaise with external service providers if necessary.  The ability to troubleshoot, prioritise issues and work under pressure, while maintaining established procedures and standards are a key requirement for this position.  Candidates will also be required to draft system configuration documentation where appropriate and ensure that the Client’s ICT knowledgebase is maintained.  A full list of responsibilities and requirements is outlined below.

 

The successful candidate will join a team that supports 13 sites throughout the country with about 500 users.

 

The main responsibilities of this position are:

  • Ensure availability of network services for end-users
  • Level 3 Network Support - resolve any network issues or user problems escalated from other teams for issues involving:  Windows 2003/2008, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Exchange 2003/2007, Outlook Web Access, Vmware, HyperV, SAN infrastructure, Terminal Services, SSL VPN and remote access systems
  • Pro-active innovation and troubleshoot and resolve critical incidents across the network, determining root cause where possible
  • Network systems monitoring, maintenance, administration and upgrades
  • Small Projects – leading and driving to a successful conclusion within the required timeframe, including drafting all relevant project management documentation
  • Development and implementation of security policies
  • Define and document network solutions and operating procedures
  • Ensuring that change management and network policies & procedures are adhered to
  • Alerting Network Team members of anything that could be considered as a breach of policy, potential security risk or inappropriate use by end-users
  • Ensuring adequate documentation is completed where appropriate after every task
  • Escalate issues to third party providers, where appropriate and monitor and manage the resolution of such escalations
  • Ensuring tidyness and safety standards are maintained in server and comms rooms

 

The key required characteristics/skills being sought in the candidates for this position are:

  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • At least 3 years hands-on experience in a Network Support Administrator role, including the following areas:
    • Excellent TCP/IP skills
    • Excellent working knowledge of critical Network Services (Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/S, FTP)
    • Microsoft Server 2003 and Windows XP administration
    • Microsoft Exchange 2003 and 2007 configuration and administration
    • Remote access technologies, network access control, security and connectivity issues
    • Excellent working knowledge of configuration of production virtual-machine environments
    • Excellent working knowledge of enterprise level security technologies (firewalls, web proxies, email gateways)
  • Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot network-related issues in a  time-critical and pressured environment
  • Configuration and management of SAN technologies in a production environment
  • A customer-focused approach to service delivery and a familiarity with the ITIL framework concepts and its implementation
  • Experience of dealing with workloads via call-logging systems
  • Experience of implementation of Project Management methodologies
  • Excellent oral and written communication, and documentation skills
  • Teamwork skills and a positive attitude are essential
  • Flexibility, self-motivation, drive, initiative and ability to work under pressure

 

Additional desired characteristics being sought in the candidates for this position include:

  • Network+/CCNA/MCSA/MCSE/Security+ or equivalent certification
  • Sharepoint 2007 administration experience
  • Server 2008 administration experience
  • Unix or Linux administration experience
  • Experience working with Government Networks (GovNet)
  • Familiarity with Nortel network management products
  • Configuration and management of enterprise level backup systems
  • Configuration and management of enterprise level firewalls
