4 Myths about Managed Services Providers
April 26th 2016
Never before has there been the opportunity for change and potential confusion in the world of Managed IT Services. Organisations of different size, that are seeking managed services for their IT operations, have a wide array of providers and service offerings from which to choose from. Among the different offerings from Managed Service Providers (MSP’s), there are some prevailing misconceptions and myths. By outlining these myths, it might give your organisation a clearer picture when on the hunt for a new MSP.
1. More People = Better Service
One common misconception by companies is that there is guaranteed success in choosing from the largest service providers available to them. It is seen that quality of service, value for money and linked to size of MSP.
A key component of an MSP offerings is the ability to scale them up and down as demand dictates. While an incumbent MSP for an organisation might have been able to provide an adequate service initially, as a company growth fluctuates the flexibility of the MSP to scale now or in the future can be crucial to long-term success. At IT Force we allow clients to pick and choose what service offerings they need at that time. The price that they are charged is based on the services they actually select, and they can add or subtract offerings thereafter as required.

2. Managed services will cost a fortune, and I will always have those extra charges
Managed services can create a massive cost saving for your organisation. A study has shown that Irish SME’s could save on average 25% on their IT spending over a year using a MSP. Not to mention that the biggest reason for managed services is clients experience a better IT performance, fewer glitches, and less downtime. This means that if your managed service provider is doing a good job, there shouldn’t be any surprise charges.
3. Cheapest Price is the Best Option
One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding MSP’s is that they all provide a similar level of service. Supporting an entire organisation the way it should be supported is costly for your Managed Services Provider. These fees go towards employing top-tier talent, managing ticketing software and delivering the quality of support that your users need to be productive and effective. When a company offers bottom of the barrel pricing – the client is getting bottom of the barrel support. What does that mean? Unresolved tickets, slow response times and poor quality talent on the other side of the help desk. This will end up costing your company more in the long haul by having an unreliable IT infrastructure and service.
4. Managed Service providers are all the same
Probably the biggest myth of the list. Just like when you hire a new employee you have to do your research. No managed service provider is the same, they all have their areas of expertise with different support levels, you just have to find which one works best for you and your business.
