Enterprise Mobility - Understanding Movement: Make your business mobile.
According to Ross O'Neill, the future of enterprise is mobile and unified. Organisations are now seeking more and more complete enterprise mobility services that enable full mobile productivity across their businesses. The evolution of enterprise mobility now maps to a shifting mindset among information technology around mobile devices and applications. It is expected that business sectors are going to see greater adoption of mobile technology and wireless in the coming years as more and more enterprises embrace these technologies to drive their businesses.
The market currently stands at a unique point where the movement away from traditional communications to more internet provider services that enable enterprise mobility will become more and more the norm. How this integration of core services will happen is unknown but what we do see is that the interaction with organisations globally by the implementation of mobile devices has become the major focus of both enterprise and service providers.
Mobile devices are key enablers and productivity enhancers. Users are accessing all kinds of data, some of it of a sensitive nature outside of the office. The Irish business sector is still facing challenges in relation to the robustness of the connection enabling mobile users to have access and the security practices that need to be applied to keep data safe. John Bergin, the managing director of IT Force, said: “It is necessary to enable users access to data while they are mobile and whilst also providing built-in security mechanisms. The key to it is to listen to the client’s requirements and then spend the time to properly architect the solution.”
Due to increased risk, it has become more important to educate employees on best practices while using mobile devices in the workplace. Once that guidance is in place, employees can be as productive as possible without stifling innovation and efficiency, where the key is giving employees empowerment.
Consumerisation is in turn transforming the way people think about computing, as employees demand the ability to work from locations that best enable them to get their jobs done, using the devices that they are used to using at home. And with this comes increased job satisfaction, while also delivering a more flexible and agile organisation that is better equipped to deal with the increased speed of change in today’s business climate.
There’s no question that the benefits of mobility are enticing: improved efficiency through less paperwork; greater employee productivity through mobile access to work files day and night; faster customer-response times; and financial savings through BYOD policies. Enterprise mobility, if done right, can truly revolutionise and grow your business, big or small.
