Managed Services - Take the Efficient Option

November 5th 2012

Managed services can be one of those IT ‘buzzwords’ which seem self-evident at first – but when you dig deeper into the offerings available, they can mean very different things to different people, writes Dermot Corrigan.

In its simplest terms, with managed services any element of IT can be isolated and delivered to an organisation via an external partner, who should be able to offer improved services, lower costs, or ideally both.

'The partner should be able to design and manage a service which ensures security of systems for all parties involved, said Joe Molloy, director of managed services, IT Force.

'To deliver any remote service successfully and securely we need to have a proper secure connection to the client’s site. We may need to modify, upgrade or replace their firewall to allow this to happen. Not doing this impacts both our security, and also our other clients.'
